Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day with DSSA

Empowering Lives Through Support

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated globally on March 21st, a day dedicated to amplifying the voices of people with Down syndrome and recognising the vital roles they play in our communities and lives. The theme for 2025 is support.

Everyone needs a little support sometimes, and each person’s support needs are unique, including those with Down syndrome. Highlighting support means empowering individuals to make their own choices and live the life they want. Support also extends to families, friends, and caregivers, helping them care for and advocate for their loved ones.

To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, Down Syndrome SA, a Division of Orana, hosted a family barbecue on Saturday, March 22nd.
Held at Polonia Reserve Playground in Croydon Park, the day was filled with fun activities for all ages. From face-painting and a balloon artist to the ever-popular petting zoo, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Of course, no barbecue would be complete without plenty of delicious sausages to keep us fuelled for the festivities. The event was a wonderful opportunity for friends and families to come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories.

At Orana and Down Syndrome SA, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment while promoting awareness and acceptance. Events like this play a crucial role in strengthening community bonds and celebrating diversity.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event so special. Your presence and support truly made it a heartwarming celebration.

Finally, a special shoutout to our incredible staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. Your dedication and generosity made this event possible.

We can’t wait to celebrate with you all again next year!
